Sports medicine specialists call for P.E testing in schools.

December 2nd, 2011

Outdoor play equipment – such as climbing frames and trampolines – in the home contribute hugely to keeping children active and healthy, however this is just half the struggle as active lifestyles should also be encouraged at school.

At a recent teachers’ conference in London, sports medicine specialists stressed the need for P.E to be treated as seriously as other core subjects such as English and Maths. This would mean the next generation of adults will be more conscious of the positive benefits of remaining healthy and keeping fit. Currently the NHS spends £4.2 billion every year on obesity related procedures and treatments and educating children to engage in exercise and to eat well should mean a drop in this enormous figure.

Taking it a step further sports medicine specialist Dr Andy Franklyn-Miller suggested we should be looking to introduce testing within P.E lessons in order to monitor children’s progress. His argument being that without testing, no improvement or perhaps decline in skills can be monitored and no help can be given to those children that are struggling with physical activities. There was some opposition from the members of the National Union of Teachers who felt that testing wasn’t appropriate.

What are your thoughts? Should PE testing be introduced or would this reduce enthusiasm for physical education further?

Mr Motivator Loves Trampolines

November 30th, 2011

Mr Motivator conjures up images of lurid 90s lycra, excessive morning cheeriness and vigorous side stepping. However, the Motivational guru otherwise known as Derrick Evans, has turned his attentions to trampolines and in particular encouraging children to exercise more.

BounceKids follows all the same principals that Climbing Frames UK try to promote daily. In our (and Mr Motivator’s) eyes active children are healthier children and healthier children are happy children. The great thing about the BounceKids initiative is its use of trampolines and its integration into the school curriculum. Targeting children whilst they are at primary school age is a brilliant idea as it teaches positive habits which hopefully they will carry into adulthood. The secret to BounceKids’ success is the fun factor, if it’s fun then the exercise element becomes an added bonus. Kids love to bounce, and adults love to bounce too. In fact we challenge you not to smile whilst you’re on a trampoline.

The initiative has been so successful that Mr Motivator has taken it to Dubai – where according to the Health Authority 10% of children in Abu Dhabi are clinically obese. Fingers crossed in time the world will be covered in bounce advocates encouraging fun and movement with the use of trampolines.

We have a fantastic range of 8ft, 10ft, 12ft and 14ft trampolines which will enable children to remain active at home.

Climbing Frames UK Celebrates Halloween

October 28th, 2011

Here at Climbing Frames UK we will use any excuse to celebrate. The best thing about working with outdoor play equipment, climbing frames, trampolines and other really cool stuff is that it is basically required that we have fun.

The Selwood cottage is up for grabs at the moment and all of our Facebook friends have the opportunity to win it. So we decided in the honour of Old Hallow’s Eve we would recruit the help of a five year-old Witch and seven year-old Vampire to help us decorate the playhouse.

Here are some before and after photos.

We would love to see you cover your climbing frames in cobwebs or transform your trampoline.

Climbing Frames UK are making friends fast

October 21st, 2011

We joined Facebook this summer with the hope of sharing our enthusiasm and love for outdoor play with people. Our climbing frames bring families joy for years and we wanted to connect with customers past and present to share in this. Whether it is a swing set, a trampoline or a wooden playhouse they all make a big difference to a household.

We would love to have as much input from our facebook friends as possible. We want to see pictures of your climbing frames newly built in your gardens, of your children practising on their trampoline or pottering around their new wooden playhouse. In just a few months we have grown our friends to a huge 445 and are so pleased to be hearing such positive feedback.

At the moment we have two great reasons to become our friend. The first is the Selwood Cottage competition, featured in our previous blog post, where any of our facebook friends can win the gorgeous wooden playhouse worth £399. The second reason is that we are willing to donate £200 to EACH, East Anglia’s Children’s Hospital, if we reach 1000 friends by xmas. We are more than confident that we will smash the target and simply wanted to raise as much awareness as possible for a worthy cause.

A little about the charity:

EACH provides much needed support and care for children and young people with life-threatening conditions. Being based near Bury st Edmunds, Suffolk we wanted to focus on a local charity such as EACH who provide the care and support where ever the family wish – in their homes, in hospital or in one of their hospices in Ipswich, Milton and Quindenham.

We’re sure you would agree this is a fantastic cause and hope everyone will help us contribute to the £4.8 million they need to raise this year alone.

Climbing Frames – Wednesday Adventurer

October 12th, 2011

We believe in encouraging adventure and exploration. We work hard to ensure that our climbing frames, play equipment, swings, trampolines do just that. We’re not sure whether he had a climbing frame or swing set himself, but Roald Amundsen was an inspirational explorer.

A fairly long time ago (1872) in Borge, Norway, Roald Engebreth Gravning Amundsen was born. As a teenager Roald had become fascinated with English explorer John Franklin and had dreamed one day of becoming an explorer himself. In 1899 he became a sea captain and in 1910 set sail for the North Pole, planning to be the first to reach it. However just before setting sail he received word that fellow explorer, Robert Peary had actually beat him to it. Not the type to be easily defeated Roald continued with his expedition, telling only his brother that the course had changed and they were now heading for the South Pole. On December 14th, 1911 Roald and his team reached their destination, beating a British team under Captain Scott by four weeks.

Roald Amundsen would buy: The Ridgeview

The Ridgeview £699

Roald is clearly not afraid of a little cold weather (temperatures get as low as -74 degrees Fahrenheit in the South Pole) so he would love any Climbing Frames UK playset as they can be used all year round. Playing in the snow is one of winter’s great joys. Many think a climbing frame is just for warmer months but it is great to get everyone in the garden when the snow falls too. The Ridgeview is fantastic value and has everything you could want from a climbing frame. A true adventurer needs monkey bars, rock wall, wavy slide, swings and a glider. In fact they would expect nothing less.

Trampoline for the summer holiday?

July 20th, 2011

Buy a trampoline for the summer from Climbing Frames UK
Why not buy a trampoline ready for the summer holiday? With more people staying at home in the UK or going for short breaks now is a great time to invest in a trampoline for the garden!

Trampolines are fantastic for keeping children active and entertained, both on their own, with siblings and with friends. Our range of trampolines is available from as small as 8ft for those with smaller gardens, with a selection of 10ft, 12ft and 14ft trampolines also available, and also we do the quality Jumpking Oval trampoline which is great for those with larger gardens!

Our trampolines are all manufactured to high standards so will not be the cheapest available, but you can guarantee that they’ll last you longer than the ‘disposable’ garden trampolines available from the mass retailers, where the initial specification may look good but the finished quality may not quite live up to expectation!

We have partnered some of the worlds biggest trampoline manufacturers to ensure that not only do the trampolines have the right specification, but they also are made up of excellent quality component parts, which in turn means your trampoline will last many years of use. Our 10ft trampolines and 12ft trampolines are the most popular models because they offer the best compromise between size, price and safety.

If you have a small garden or limited space available due to decking, flower beds or other outdoor toys, then you may wish to consider one of our 8ft trampolines. These models feature the same high quality materials as the larger sizes, but will generally have slightly lower specification. We also do a selection of spares and accessories for trampolines of all sizes so to view these or our range of combo trampolines please visit http://www.climbingframesuk.com/trampolines/
