Springfree Trampoline Review

September 27th, 2010

Climbing Frames UK have a great range of trampolines in our trampoline shop. We take pride in knowing our products, and how they line up with our competition. One of our key jobs is comparing our products to that of new products to the market and leading competitive products. We hope that our research and knowledge can help give customers a balanced perspective. You’ll see from the reviews below that often the selling points given by some can also be negative points when tested independently by other people.

The first review video is from Springfree, who have a unique trampoline design that moves away from the norm of a metal from with metal springs. This item has been very popular due to the attractive design and advantages of some of the features sold by the re-sellers.

As you’ll see from the following video, the unique design also gives some unique negative points also. The Springfree SF90 was tested and revied by www.trampolinesafety.com in the following video.

We hope you find these videos interesting and informative. Our staff discovered these images on youtube when completing a product analysis. More information and resellers can be found by doing a google search for “springfree trampolines”. Above all we recommend that whether you choose a Spring Free Trampoline, Jumpking Trampoline or Alley Oop Trampoline that you respect the fact you must use any trampoline with care and respect or serious injuries could occur.

Climbing Frames – Which wood type is best?

September 9th, 2010

Climbing Frames UK often get asked why the majority of our playsets are made from cedar wood when when of our competitors use pine wood.

The most frequently asked question – Is cedar wood better than treated pine wood?

The answer: Yes, cedar is better to use for durability and longer lasting. Pine is soft, whether treated or not, and usually much cheaper to purchase. In the long run cedar is the better choice.

But although cedar is better, it also depends on what you need it for… If your doing craft and its not going to be weathered or battered around then pine is better. Treated pine is good for craft work as it is easier to shape, and bend then cedar. However, climbing frames are going to be weathered becasue they’re going to be in your garden for years, and battered becasue they’ll be well used by children, making cedar the best choice.

Cedar is commonly used if you want to make something that last longer and are not concerned about the additional cost. The knot structure is small, sound and tight and with natural oils found in the lumber, cedar is naturally resistant to rot and insect destruction. This makes it a perfect product for both interior and exterior applications, and particularly play equipment. The tight, small knot structure means cracks are small and splinters are rare.

In comparison, natural pine is a light-colored softwood with straight grain. It is very cheap and harvested mainly from forests in eastern Europe but also from all around the world. There are two types of pine used for outdoor products; pressure treated and untreated. Untreated pine has low resistance to the elements and is less durable than pressure treated pine and a water or oil based sealer should be applied to untreated pine every year. Pressure treated pine needs no sealer but can be painted or stained if desired. Either type of pine can be cleaned with soap and water. Mildew will need removing with a standard bathroom cleaner intermittently. Pressure treated pine is incredibly suseptible to cracks and splinters. This is expected on rustic style round beam swings and of ofter part of the reason people buy, becasue they are looking for a rustic, weathered swingset. This is often a surprise on more american style sawn (square cut) climbing frames and playsets.

If properly taken care of, cedar or pressure treated pine can last up to 20 years, but all will require maintinence, care and treatment. Wood is a natural product so cracks and splits are inevitable as the mositure content of the wood changes. We strongly advise making an educated choice when picking your climbing frame or swing to ensure you find something suitable for you, your children and garden.

Cedar looks nicer, cracks less and splinters less, so we believe cedar is much more suitable than pine for structures where children will be climbing. Pine is good for rustic weathered appearance and is great for cheap roundwood swingsets.

We at Climbing Frames UK hope this article is useful in your hunt for a suitable climbing frame or swingset.

10 Reasons Why Sun Is Good for Our Health

September 8th, 2010

Stone Age people knew the Sun brought life on Earth and that is why they used to worship it. The suns rays can heal and destroy, but unfortunately we seem to only hear about the latter nowadays, so i thought i’d redress the balance and give 10 good reasons why to enjoy the sun.

1. The sunlight kills microbes. That’s why it is important to put carpets, blankets and eiderdowns that cannot be washed regularly out in the sun. Exposure to the sun confers the skin a bright, healthy look and increased elasticity making it more resistant to infections and sun burning than an untanned one. Many skin diseases (dermatitis) can be controlled and even cured through controlled exposure to the sun. The sun rays are proven to strengthen the immune system.

2. Due to the sun our mood improves! Sunlight helps in cases of chronic or acute depression, by stimulating the synthesis of endorphins (good-feeling hormones). That’s why we get depressed in the cold and dark days of the winter.

3. The sun is good against insomnia. Daytime exposure to sunlight increases the melatonin production during the night. This hormone helps regulate the sleep.

4. Under the action of the sunlight, the skin synthesizes vitamin D, which makes possible calcium absorption in the intestine, helping the organism grow strong bones. This way the sun prevents rachitis in both children and adults and osteoporosis in elders.

5. As vitamin D and some related compounds impede the development of some cancer cells, we can say the sun fights off this disease. Regular and controlled exposure to the sun has a preventive effect against cancer of colon, breast, leukemia and lymphomas.

6. Exposure to the sun strengthens the cardiovascular system. Blood circulation is improved, the pulse, arterial pressure, moderately high glycemia and cholesterol levels can be normalized.

7. Sun rays improve liver functioning, being effective in treating jaundice.

8. They help the kidneys with a part of their job, as the sun waves favor the elimination of waste products through the skin, when we sweat.

9. The sun also helps losing weight by increasing the metabolic rate through the stimulation of the thyroid. It also eases symptoms of premenstrual syndrome.

10. The sun rays also ease the healing of the swollen joints during peaks of inflammation in cases of arthritis.

So all in all the sun is great! I know when i was younger i loved getting out, riding my bike and climbing trees. Now social pressures (and risks) prevent my children having the freedom we once had, but at least they can have the things we didn’t too – a garden full of outdoor toys, including a climbing frame, playhouse and trampoline.

September 6th, 2010

We all know that trampolining is great for our health, but it can also be of fantastic benefit to confidence too! Check out our video below and see the fun and confident way which these two boys are doing amazing trampoline tricks and stunts.

Please note, we would always advise safe trampolining and suggest that you only have one person at a time on the bounce bed, and only do tricks and somersaults if correctly trained and supervised.

Trampolines provide us with great way to get outdoors and experience some great exercise as well as benefit from all the good things about being out in the sunshine! This, coupled with the exercise and social interaction is one of the best ways to build confidence and self esteem.

Climbing Frames UK have a great range of trampolines with four great brands. Our bottom end, entry level trampolines are from a company called Cortez Trampolines. Relatively new to the UK, they have a good product for a cheap price. Stepping up from that is our popular range of Selwood Trampolines. Selwood are one of the best suppliers of outdoor childrens toys in the UK and made their name supplying Tesco, Toys R Us and Early Learning Centre with Climbing Frames. Now they’ve brought their reputation for excellent value in to the Trampoline market and are upsetting some more established distributors and retailers with their cheap but well specified products. Slightly more expensive again are Jumpking, one of the biggest suppliers of trampolines in the UK, with a large range and a solid reputation you won’t be disappointed if you opt for a Jumpking trampoline. Topping our range are our Jumpsport Alley Oop trampolines which are manufactured to the highest quality using the best products and the highest specification – possibly the safest trampolines in the world.
