This year is set to be an amazing one for Britain. There is the Queen’s jubilee and all the street parties, cakes, celebrations and flag waving that goes with it. Not to mention the extra 2 days holiday. And of course there is the London 2012 Olympics. The Olympics seems to have divided our country into those who are overcome with excitement, bidding on thousands of pounds worth of tickets, following team announcements diligently and preparing for Olympics barbecues and gatherings, and those who are dreading the traffic, the tourists and the non-stop coverage.
“There are a million reasons why you should do it (stay at home) this year. It is a special year,” says Sarah Long, of tourism body Visit England.”We have got the Olympics, the torch relay throughout the country, the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, and the cultural festival with lots of free events.” The Enjoy England website has even set up a page dedicated to the year 2012 with offers and discounts.
This may go somewhere to alleviating the fears some parents have about family days out, which can add up to hugely expensive affairs. However, during discussions at Climbing Frames HQ we discovered most of our customers were opting for a ‘staycation’ this Summer. They are investing in our climbing frames and outdoor play equipment and kitting out the garden as they plan to spend much of their time outdoors in the English sunshine rather than on foreign shores. In fact our blog on 18p a day climbing frames shows just how cost effective investing in a climbing frame this Summer could be.
Will you be basking in all the British glory this Summer or will you be running away from all the hulabaloo?
